If Erik Ten Hag is named as Manchester United’s new manager, as predicted, he would want Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
That’s according to The Sun, who report that the superb Portugal midfielder will be one of Ten Hag’s primary summer goals. United had already expressed interest in the 25-year-old, according to the source, and has attempted to sign him twice.
Ten Hag, 52, is said to be a major fan of Neves, who joined Molineux in July 2017 while the team was still in the second division.
Ten Hag has “tracked Neves’ career since he first saw him play for Porto as a youth,” according to the report. And he intends to construct his midfield around the excellent player.
Bruno Lage, who is represented by Jorge Mendes, is thought to be preparing for life without Neves. The Portuguese agency also represents Cristiano Ronaldo, so he has a lot of Old Trafford connections.
Clearly, the two are important members of Bruno Lage’s team. Both appear to be on the verge of leaving the club, with Moutinho’s contract expiring and Neves attracting interest from a number of clubs.
Neves is said to be ready to put his skills to the test in the Champions League. This might be a concern for United, who appear to be on the verge of missing out this season.
Wolves are said to be considering a future without Neves and Moutinho. And it appears that they will recruit from Portugal using a tried-and-true technique.
