In the event that Sadio Mane leaves Anfield for free in July 2023, Liverpool are reportedly planning a move for Villarreal’s Arnaut Danjuma.

In LaLiga, the former Bournemouth winger has caught the attention of scouts. The Netherlands international has performed admirably this season, justifying Villarreal’s decision to pay up to £21 million for him.

Danjuma signed a five-year contract with the Spanish club and became their record signing after scoring 15 goals for the Cherries in the Championship.

This season, the 25-year-old has 13 goals in 28 games in La Liga and the Champions League. In addition, he had four assists.

The attacker’s form has piqued the interest of a number of teams. And the fact that he has previously played in the Premier League with Bournemouth will only add to his appeal.

Liverpool is reportedly interested in the left winger, according to Goal and Spox.

The Reds’ recruitment squad, led by Julian Ward, is on the lookout for Mane’s replacement.

Along with Mo Salah, the Senegal international’s contract expires in 2023.

Salah is negotiating a new multi-million dollar contract. Mane’s fate, on the other hand, will not be decided until the end of the season at the earliest. The contracts of Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita will then be considered by Liverpool. With that trio also out of contract in the near future,

Danjuma has ‘good pace’

Speaking to TFM Senegal this week Bjorn Bezemer, the executive director of Mane’s agency ROOF, said: “We talk a lot with Liverpool but currently we are not talking about a contract extension,” as relayed by The Anfield Talk.

“We are waiting for the end of the season.”

The report suggests that a potential move for Danjuma would not get rubberstamped this summer. But if Mane’s future was unresolved then a move for the player could happen in 2023.

Danjuma, who started Wednesday’s Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, is viewed as the biggest threat to the Germans by coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“He’s a very dangerous striker who can always be tipped out onto the left wing.

“He has good pace, good movements and is comparable to a top European player,” said Nagelsmann.
