Rio Ferdinand has explained to Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho why he struggled in his first season at the club.

After a £75 million move from Borussia Dortmund last summer, the former Manchester United defender says it is not the player’s fault that he has underperformed at the club.

Sancho’s football was hampered by the Manchester United team’s lack of rhythm and an identifiable style of play, according to him.

Since his big-money move from Dortmund, the England international has had a difficult time with the Red Devils.

Sancho’s former club, Ferdinand believes, had a style, structure, and culture that suited him, which is not the case at Old Trafford.

“The game catered to his strengths, passing and movement, and some team rhythm,” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five.

“Sancho isn’t as good or effective if there isn’t a rhythm. That has been his issue all along.

“The players must figure out what he excels at.” Some anticipated he’d come in and take the ball all the way to the goal from the edge of his box.

“That’s not his style of play.” He’s all about rhythm, one-touch passing, playing and moving, and destabilizing opponents with a feint.

“He hasn’t been able to achieve that because Man United’s system hasn’t yet worked.” He’s now in a vulnerable position as a result of that.

“Dortmund had a style of play that was crucial to them being able to perform at their best.

“United have invested in certain players who are still looking for their identity philosophy method of playing, which makes it tough for new players to join, let alone those who are already there.”
