Security has been tightened up in the twelve local government areas of Niger State hit by bandit/terrorist operations, according to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.

Bello made the revelation during an appearance on Arise TV’s “the morning show” in Abuja, which was broadcast live by360 MEDIA in Minna.

Except for isolated occurrences in the councils, he said the presence of security officers in the targeted local government regions had greatly reduced the attacks.

“I am hopeful that the threat will be removed before the rains arrive, allowing our people to return to their homes and farms,” he said.

It would be remembered that during a visit to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, at the Gwada camp in Shiroro LG last week Saturday, Bello revealed that 12 out of 25 councils have been hit by criminal activities.

He reminded the IDPs at the camp that efforts are being made to ensure that they return to their homes and that they may begin farming as the rainy season approaches, noting that the people are mostly farmers and that their inability to farm could have negative consequences for the state and beyond.

“Unfortunately, banditry activities have touched nearly 12 LGAs in Niger state. We began with three, then five, then eight, and are now approaching twelve.”

“The majority of these LGAs generate a significant amount of food because they are largely farmers, have very fertile land, and only farm.” This must not be allowed to happen. We must do all possible to ensure that people return to their various homes and farms, and I am hopeful that we will be able to do so before the rains arrive,” the governor remarked.

During his visit, the Governor spoke with the people and directed the supply of more basic facilities at the camp to prevent disease spread.

He then promised the people of the government’s unshakeable commitment to reuniting all IDPs with their families.
