The Nigeria Customs Service in charge of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command announced that between January and March 2022, it generated N10.167 billion, and that it has opened the Maigatari, Niger Republic Boarder to more international enterprises.

Muhammad Abubakar Umar, Area Command Controller, said the N10.167 billion was a modest increase over the N7.6 billion collected in 2021.

According to him, the disparity between this year’s three-month collections and those of 2021 was N2.4 billion, indicating that the Command will meet its goal.

From January to December 2021, the Kano/Jigawa Area Command generated N27.549 billion, according to the Custom Controller.

Foreign Rice, Spaghetti, Donkey Skins, Second Hand Clothing, and other illicit products worth N498.6 million were recovered by the Command, according to Muhammad, who added that four people were arrested in connection with the smuggling of Donkey Skins.

“When I first arrived on the job, I noticed that the Maigatari Border was not operational; I investigated to find out what was going on, and I have already assigned personnel to ensure that the border is completely operational and that all necessary income is received.”

The Control denied knowledge of fuel smuggling from Kano to neighbouring countries, saying, ” I have not witnessed such but, let me sound a serious warning to willing minds, that we are ready for them”.
