The Christian Association of Nigeria’s Lagos state branch committed on Saturday to vote for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term in next year’s election.
Most Rev. Stephen Adegbite, CAN state chairman, made the announcement at the Apostolic Church of God’s headquarters in Lagos during the 2022 CAN inter-denominational prayer session.
Mr. Adegbite said it was wrong to replace a winning team, noting that Governor Sanwo-Olu had done a good job of improving the state’s citizens’ lot.
With the arrival of the COVID-19 epidemic, which whittled down the country’s economy, he said 2021 was a hard year that pushed Lagosians to their limits.
“We are grateful to God for having a child of God as our governor. Even in difficult circumstances, his Christian upbringing has manifested itself in his dedication to serving mankind in many strata of society.
“The best way for us to thank him for his excellent work during his first term is to unite behind him and re-elect him for a second term so that he can finish many of his people-oriented projects that are in various stages of completion.”
“CAN cannot connect itself with that which is not beneficial to the common welfare as the voice of the Christian fold in the state.”
“As a result, CAN has decided to launch a voter registration and sensitization drive across the state in order to bring the Sanwo-Olu 2023 project to completion,” he stated.
The governor, who was a distinguished guest at the occasion, praised God for saving people’s lives during the tough COVID-19 time in his response.
He stated that his government would continue to provide a conducive atmosphere for the growth of services and enterprises.
