Former Ghana international John Paintsil has praised Nigeria’s Super Eagles for performing admirably under pressure against the Black Stars at the Baba Yara stadium.

The Super Eagles held the Black Stars to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff on Friday.

Despite playing in front of a raucous home crowd, Austine Eguavoen’s men were unlucky not to overcome Ghana after missing several decent chances.

Paintsil commented on Super Sports after the match, “Nigeria have done well in terms of coping with the pressure and they truly did play, their serenity was quite nice,” he remarked.

“When you play away, especially against Ghana, you are expected to play long balls, but the Eagles usually attempt to build from the back when they get the ball.”

“They brought the game to Ghana, and I have to give the Nigerians credit.”

On Tuesday, Nigeria will play Ghana in a rematch at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

The victor of the two legs will earn a spot in the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar later this year.
