According to manager Vahid Halihodzic, Ziyech, 28, has not been named in an international squad since June because he “refused to work” for the side.
“Obviously, I understand them,” Ziyech remarked, “but I will not return to the national team.”
“It’s my ultimate decision, yes.” It’s very clear to me how things are going over there, and I’m concentrating on what I’m doing right now, which is my club.
“Of course, who doesn’t, but at the end of the day, it’s his decision, and you must accept it, but if it comes with all the lies, it’s evident to me.”
“As I have stated, I will not return to the national team.” I understand and sympathize with them.”
“His behavior in the last two matches, especially the last one, was not that of a national team player who, as a leader in the team, must be a constructive role model,” Halihodzic stated in June.
“He was late, and he refused to work after that.” There was no point in debating it later; as a coach, the solution is right in front of you.
“The national team is above everything to me, and no one can keep it hostage.”

He subsequently declined to warm up in the second half, citing his dissatisfaction with his role as a substitute.
