Piers Morgan, a former CNN host, has advised Arsenal to replace manager Mikel Arteta if the club does not finish in the top four this season.
Morgan, an Arsenal supporter, stated this after Arsenal’s defeat to Burnley in a Premier League match over the weekend.
Arsenal is currently in sixth place in the Premier League standings, with 36 points from 21 games.
“Despite his tough guy posturing and his “trust the process” nonsense, [Mikel] Arteta has been a demonstrated failure at Arsenal so far,” Morgan told The Sun.
“He’s been in charge for two years and 114 matches, with a win percentage of just 53%, which is lower than both [Arsene] Wenger’s and Unai Emery’s.
“Yes, he won the FA Cup just a few months after taking over [due to two goals by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang].” For a team like Arsenal, however, winning the Top Division and Champions League is what matters, and it is on this basis that true success should be measured.
“Despite Arteta’s £150 million investment in new players, we are currently sixth in the table and have already been eliminated from both domestic competitions.”
“If we don’t qualify for the champions league this season, and even that “success” seems like such a small aspiration for such a supposedly major club, he shouldn’t be awarded a wage hike; he should be terminated.”
