The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has asked that the federal government re-engage organized labor in dialogue in order to identify mutually acceptable solutions to Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sub-current sector’s quagmire.

The NLC also implored Government to cancel its plans to raise the price of gasoline at the pump throughout the country.

Mr. Ayuba Wabba, the NLC President, made the request in a letter sent to state governors and signed by Mr. Emanuel Ugboaja, the congress’s General Secretary.

Remember that the federal administration announced on Monday that the fuel subsidy will not be removed due to potential issues.

Hajia Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, said the Federal government was considering removing the fuel subsidy from July this year, after making provisions in the 2022 budget to mitigate the damage.

“The Federal Government should exhibit sincerity and commitment to revamping our local refineries as a long-term solution to bulk importation of refined petroleum products,” Wabba stated in response.

He also encouraged the federal governments to take quick action to strengthen governance and transparency.

This, he claims, will help Nigerians restore their trust.

He also stated that organized labor is eager and ready to collaborate with the government to find long-term solutions to the problem in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, as well as other governance issues.
