Former England striker Darren Bent has advised Manchester United to sell six key players in the summer transfer window: Harry Maguire, Fred, Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo, Scott McTominay, and Paul Pogba.
Bent also wants David de Gea, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford to remain at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
This comes after Manchester United was knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid earlier this week.
“The ones you keep are [David] de Gea, you keep Varane,” Bent stated on talkSPORT’s Drivetime. I believe you require a new right-back. Maguire, (Harry)? Nope.
“I don’t believe [Scott McTominay] is up to the task, but he’s yours.” Building-wise? Nope.
“I believe Fred is a strange guy because, in the last several weeks, he’s been the one who’s gone, ‘You know what? ‘I’m up for it.’ But, if you’re attempting to construct a successful team from the ground up, he might have to go.
“You keep Sancho,” says the narrator. Ronaldo has to leave. Cavani, [Edinson], has to leave. [Martial] must leave.
“Rashford is the one where there is something there if the new manager likes him. If he can bring out the best in him, you should keep him because he is still young.
“[Pogba] will leave anyway because he is a free agent at the end of the season.” If Manchester United has any ambitions, [he should leave].
“I truly like Pogba as a player, but Manchester United fans are sick of hearing, ‘We’re waiting for that consistency,’ therefore he’d have to leave.”
