Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, has stated that the team is not stronger without Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo scored all three goals as United defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the Premier League on Saturday.

It brought the 37-year-total old’s to 807 goals in his club and international career, more than any other player in FIFA history.

Ronaldo was absent from United’s 4-1 loss to Manchester City last weekend, amid speculation that Ralf Rangnick’s side would be more offensive without him.

“Without Cristiano Ronaldo, Man United would not still be in the Champions League,” Ferdinand, who played with Ronaldo during his first tenure at Old Trafford, told Mirror Football.

“Would United be a better team without him?” That is something with which I completely disagree.

“If he wasn’t playing for Man United, they would have been eliminated from the group stage.”

“A player of his talent and ability, who is as resolute as he is, who has proven over the years and this season that he can make a difference.”

“Manchester United is not a team that can say, ‘OK, we’re too excellent to have someone like that in our team.'”
