The buses that left Continassa on Friday for Zahony, Hungary, close the Ukrainian border, have now returned to Italy, stopping in La Morra, Cuneo region.
80 people, largely youngsters accompanied by some moms, have found safety in Italy after a 2800-kilometer round trip.
Some of the members of the group are alumni of Ukrainian football schools, who were reunited thanks to the efforts of Alex Velykykh, a Donetsk native, and the Ukrainian Football Federation.
A 20-person Juventus delegation also provided basic essentials, such as clothing and medicine, which were collected thanks to the efforts of all Juventus employees. Jen Csiszár, the Hungarian Consul General, assisted with all of this on the ground.
The Ukrainian refugees were cordially welcomed at the Hotel Santa Maria in La Morra upon their arrival today, which was made possible by the Piedmont Region’s commitment and the Civil Protection Department’s rapid efforts to make the initiative possible.
Maria Luisa Ascheri, the Mayor of La Morra, was also present.
A lengthy voyage has come to a tranquil conclusion for the travelers, who may now attempt to put the terror they have fled behind them and look forward to the future.
