The government of Akwa Ibom has been accused of surreptitiously recruiting people for the state civil service, despite the fact that it hasn’t advertised any job openings since 2015.

The approval for work in the State is frequently signed with’special biros in distinguishing color,’ according to the 360 MEDIA.

Employees have been resuming work in numerous ministries, departments, and organizations around the state without going through an official hiring process, according to sources close to media in Uyo.

According to the sources, some high government officials and politicians allegedly utilize their connections to gain jobs for their friends and relatives, while others allegedly pay large sums of money to corrupt government officials to secure jobs for them.

The sum paid was estimated to be between N200, 000 and N300,000, according to reports.

Mrs Enobong Akpaah, one of the candidates, revealed that she paid N250,000 to a prominent government official to get a job, but that she is yet to receive the job.

“There are many of us who have paid to gain a job in the civil service. I’ve been paying since April of last year. Others who had paid have gone back to work. She stated, “I have yet to receive my employment letter.”

Also, according to an inside source in the Civil Service who requested anonymity, new employees came to their office virtually every day for documentation as part of the procedures for payroll eligibility.

It was also discovered that the covert hiring was not limited to the State Civil Service, but also included the Local Government Service Commission and federal agencies in the state.

The State administration, however, has disputed the accusation through Mr. Effiong Essien, the Head of the State Civil Service.

Both the Head of Civil Service and the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission denied there was any continuous covert employment, but admitted that those employed were chosen from a database of persons who had previously answered to advertised jobs.
