The Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed, and the Group Managing Director of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, have been summoned by the House of Representatives Committee probing the state of Nigeria’s refineries.

The summons was issued by Ganiyu Johnson, the Committee’s Chairman, after authorities dispatched representatives without an accompanying letter.

He said that Mr Kyari had provided a written submission to the committee, but that the response had left them unsatisfied.

The Chairman stated that the committee would not accept the representatives’ appearance and requested that they come on Thursday of the following week.

At a time when Nigerians are battling to access fuel and other essential supplies, this probe is ongoing.

Many Nigerians feel that if the country’s refineries had been operational, the situation would have been different.

The committee also called other officials, including the Federation’s Accountant General, Auditor General, and Director-General of the Federation’s Budget Office.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission’s Chief Executive and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Authority’s Chief Executive are among the others.
