The US is deploying an additional 3,000 troops to Poland, where 1,700 combat troops have assembled in case Russia invades Ukraine, according to a senior defense official.
Additional soldiers will leave Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in the coming days and arrive in Poland early next week. According to the Associated Press, these are the last members of the 82nd Airborne Division’s infantry brigade.
President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, issued a public warning for all American people in Ukraine to evacuate as quickly as possible.
In his warning, Sullivan stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin might issue an order to invade Ukraine at any time.
In addition to the US troops heading to Poland, about 1,000 US soldiers stationed in Germany will be deployed to Romania in a similar reassuring mission to a NATO member.
The US troops will train with the host country’s army and will not enter Ukraine under any circumstances.
The US already has some 80,000 troops stationed in various parts of Europe on a permanent basis.
