The sighting of the moon has been confirmed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

This marks the start of the Ramadan fasting month.

Abubakar announced the start of the Ramadan fast on Saturday in a live broadcast on Friday.

“Today, Friday the 1st of April, 2022, marks the conclusion of the month of Sha’aban, 1443, and we shall begin fasting in accordance with Shari’a tomorrow, insha Allah.” We received reports of the new moon sighting from a number of states, including Sokoto, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Katsina, Plateau, Kaduna, and Kano.

“As a result, we urge all Muslims to begin fasting tomorrow in this Holy Month of Ramadan, Insha Allah,” the Sultan stated.

He urged Nigerian Muslims to intensify their prayers to Almighty Allah to bring peace and stability to the country.

The Sultan is also the President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria (NSCIA).

He had asked Muslims across the country to observe Ramadan this year after sundown on Friday, April 1, which corresponds to the 29th Sha’aban 1443 AH.
