Funmi Ogun, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekti State, has rejected her selection as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.
During the second term of ex-Governor Ayo Fayose, Ogun served as Commissioner for Works.
Her letter to the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, on February 24, 2022, was headlined “Re: My Nomination as Deputy Governorship Candidate.”
Ogun informed Ayu that she was aware that Ekiti stakeholders had submitted her name for the governorship election on June 18.
“Despite their good intentions, I must formally decline the nomination for personal reasons.”
“However, I appreciate the unusual acknowledgment and guarantee the party that no effort will be spared to ensure our election success,” she said.
According to NAN, the lawmaker stated that the letter was not intended to belittle anyone.
She claimed that the PDP national leadership had neglected to act despite receiving her endorsement and nomination.
Ogun said she wrote the message to avoid getting into a fight with the party’s leaders.
“I’ve composed this letter while waiting for our president, Ayo Fayose, and other national leaders to respond. This does not imply that the Ekiti State PDP is in trouble,” the chieftain stated.
