The purported attack on the Kaduna International Airport took place six kilometers from the terminal and outside the airport perimeter fence, according to the military administration.

According to 360 MEDIA, the military reported that 12 of the bandits were killed in an air strike after being pursued for a long time.

Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Brig-General Uriah Opuene, Garrison Command 1 Division Nigerian Army, and Air Force Base Commander, Air Commodore Ademuyiwa Adedoyin accompanied journalists on a tour of the attack site.

While briefing journalists, Brig-General Opuene stated that the Kaduna International Airport is quite secure, claiming that there are multiple layers of protection at the airport and that no bandits would dare to attack it.

According to early findings, the bandits were travelling via the back of the airport on their way to Riyawa village when they spotted the security man hired by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to keep an eye on their metrological equipment along the axis.

“As you can see, this location is around six kilometers away from the Airport terminal,” he says. When the bandits observed the security guard engaged by NAMA, they fired at him as they passed behind the airport perimeter fence. They simply took advantage of the situation to send a message.”

He went on to say that not even the first layer had been broken through.

“As you can see from the distance, the outside implication that terrorists have taken over the airport is incorrect. “They would have met us there if the terrorists had entered,” he claimed.

Air Commodore Adedoyin, the NAF Base Commander, also spoke, saying that security around the Kaduna Airport has been stepped up since the security of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) was broken last year, and that robbers would not dare to assault the Kaduna Airport.

He stated that the Airport is safe and secure, and that the State Government is working with individuals in the surrounding towns to increase intelligence gathering.

He assured that there was no threat to the immediate vicinity of the Airport because the military were ahead of the bandits.
