Mukan Gobum, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 11, has urged residents of South-West Nigeria to urge their youths to join the Nigeria Police Force.

The region was also urged to promote upright and responsible people to apply for and be properly screened for recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force.

The AIG revealed the data for the 2021 recruitment of policemen to the Nigeria Police Force, noting that less than 10% of the 81,005 candidates that applied are from the country’s southern regions.

During the One Day Recruitment Sensitization/Town Hall Forum organized by Police Service Commission in Ibadan on Wednesday, Gobum, who was represented by DC Zonal CID, DCP Ganiyu Salami at Police Service Commission, appealed stakeholders to encourage the youth to join the force.

He urged traditional authorities, religious organizations, political leaders, and parents to encourage young people to join the army so that the Southerners would no longer be marginalized.

The Nigerian Government has approved the recruitment of 100,000 police officers over the next five years, according to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith.

In a similar spirit, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission urged citizens to encourage upright and responsible people to apply for recruitment into the Nigerian Police Force and undergo rigorous screening.

“If our country’s responsible, educated, and upright young people are encouraged to join and stay in the police force, our country will undoubtedly have the number of male and female required for an effective police force,” he stated.

Traditional rulers, including Oni of Ife, who was represented by Oluwo of Iwo, Timi of Ede, PCRC South West leader, Osun and Oyo States PCRC Chairmen, Osun State PAPEF Chairman, and other significant players were present at the ceremony.
