Peter Olayinka, a Super Eagles attacker, is on track to break Nigerian superstar Austin Jay Jay Okocha’s European club appearance record.
When Slavia Prague hosts Feyenoord in the second leg of their Europa Conference League tie on Thursday, the Czech Republic champions will make his 53rd appearance in UEFA European club tournaments.
Both teams had played to a 3-3 tie in the first leg last week, with Olayinka scoring the game’s first goal.
Olayinka equaled Okocha, a former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, with his 52nd appearance in European club tournaments.
According to Soccernet, if Olayinka plays against Feyenoord in Slavia on Thursday, he will surpass Okocha and draw level with former Nigeria international Celestine Babayaro.
Olayinka’s new record will take him to the fifth-joint position among Nigeria’s highest appearance makers in European club competitions behind Nwankwo Kanu (81 games), Taye Taiwo (78 games), John Mikel Obi (70 games), and Obafemi Martins (63 games).
