FOOTBALL: Rangnick tells Man Utd’s star that he needs to take action to get out of his funk.

Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United’s manager, has advised Marcus Rashford to take steps to get out of his slump.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s illness and Edinson Cavani’s injury, Rashford was only selected on the bench for Man United’s Premier League match against Leicester City, as Bruno Fernandes played a false nine.

Rashford came on late in the second half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester, but his effect was little as his problems persisted.

This season, the England attacker has only five goals in 27 appearances for Man United.

“It’s no secret that Marcus isn’t enjoying the time of his life right now,” Rangnick stated at his post-game press conference.

“It’s about rhythm and confidence, and it’s our responsibility to assist him regain that confidence.”

“The only thing we can do is communicate with him on a daily basis and let him know what we expect of him and what he should do. He is responsible for the rest.

“Within a few weeks, you can build a level of confidence that allows you to play like a different player.”

“We all know Marcus can play better, but he has to take the initiative to do so.”
