Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United striker, has been released on bail pending “further inquiry.”
Greenwood was interrogated about rape, sexual assault, and death threats.
On Sunday, Greater Manchester Police said that a man in his 20s had been arrested after “social media photographs and videos posted by a woman claiming acts of physical assault.”
Greenwood was held in jail for three nights after Greater Manchester Police requested more time to question him.
They also stated on Tuesday afternoon that the England international had been arrested again on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill.
Greater Manchester Police have now stated that Greenwood has been freed from detention pending further investigation as a result of the extra questioning time.
“A 20-year-old guy has been released on bail pending further investigation after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman,” a police official said.
Manchester United has suspended Greenwood until further notice.
In 2019, the 20-year-old made his Red Devils debut, and in 2021, he signed a four-year agreement paying £100,000-per-week.
