Frank Lampard has returned to the Premier League as Everton’s manager.
One year after being fired by Chelsea, the 43-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at Goodison Park.
Lampard has already made his mark on the team, bringing in Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent contract and Donny van de Beek on loan from Manchester United.
As Everton looks to improve on the form that got Rafa Benitez ousted in January, the two midfielders are anticipated to play key roles.
In less than three years since leaving Arsenal, Lampard is the fourth manager Iwobi has played under.
In his lone full season at Stamford Bridge, the former England midfielder mostly used a 4-3-3 formation, but he did occasionally move to a 4-2-3-1 system.
Lampard’s intentions at Everton will be revealed in the coming weeks, though it’s likely that either configuration will be preferred during his spell at Goodison Park.
There will be fierce competition for Iwobi’s spot, especially after the club’s January transfer transaction.
Lampard now has more alternatives in central areas thanks to Alli and Van de Beek, while Anwar El Ghazi’s signing from Aston Villa expands his possibilities in wide areas.
Iwobi has only had six Premier League goal involvements (three goals and as many assists) in 43 starts (68 overall) since his arrival to Everton, and the following month could be crucial for the Super Eagles star, who is entering the final two years of his current deal in the summer of 2022.
