Pablo Mari, an Arsenal loanee, has made it known to the Gunners and their manager Mikel Arteta that he wants to stay in Italy.
Mari, who is on loan from Arsenal to Udinese in Italy, believes Serie A is the greatest league for him.
After failing to win a regular role under Arteta, the defender joined Udinese on loan for the remainder of the season in January.
Mari joined Arsenal on a loan agreement from Flamengo in Brazil before becoming a permanent Arsenal player in 2020 for a price of £7 million.
Arsenal has two years left on his contract with the 28-year-old.
Mari was anticipated to return to Arsenal at the conclusion of the season after his loan, but he has recently stated that he prefers to stay in Udinese.
“I had a clear and exact plan when I arrived in January,” Mari told Gazetta dello Sport.
“I informed the coach and [club owner] Gino Pozzo that I would be attending the game.” But I realized I had to prove myself day in and day out, workout after workout. [Head coach] Cioffi was the first to greet me when I arrived.
“This is the correct league for me.” Very strategic. I make an attempt to get the assailant closer to me.
“I really like having the ball and here it can be done and then there is the battle and I like having a battle on the pitch. I would like to stay in Italy.”
He added: “I’m very well at Udinese and I would be happy to take the club even higher in the standings. Of course, I still have a two-year contract with Arsenal.
“I have resumed playing continuously after the operation on my left ankle where I was out for five months.”
