The Germany international’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has turned down several offers from Chelsea’s board of directors to stay in west London.

Thomas Tuchel is obviously anxious to keep Rudiger, who has been a standout performance for Chelsea thus far this season.

But such performances have only cemented Rudiger’s view that he deserves to be among the club’s highest earners, and he has an offer from Real Madrid to go to Spain on the table.

Rudiger’s demands for roughly £200,000-a-week caught Chelsea off guard at the start of the season, but the Athletic believe that those demands have now grown, with the defender now asking around £225,000-a-week.

That’s before any signing-on fee, which will almost certainly be substantial considering Chelsea’s risk of losing Rudiger on a free transfer.

Despite Rudiger’s increased demands, Chelsea is more optimistic than ever that he will sign a new contract.

Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are both out of contract in July, and Chelsea are wary of caving in to one of the players’ requests because of the ramifications for the other players.
Since January 1st, all three players have been permitted to sign pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs.

However, they have yet to do so, giving Chelsea hope that they can be persuaded to stay.
