Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper for Real Madrid, has weighed in on Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku joined Chelsea from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021 for a club-record £98 million fee.

The former Manchester United forward had an immediate impact at Chelsea, scoring four goals in his first four games under Thomas Tuchel.

However, his form has dipped since then, and Courtois, an international teammate of Lukaku’s, thinks it’s surprising that his buddy hasn’t been playing as much for the Blues recently.

“Romelu is a tremendously great striker,” Courtois said before Chelsea’s Champions League last-16 first-leg encounter against Real Madrid on Wednesday night, according to Chelsea’s official website. It’s surprising to see him not playing as much lately, but he’s a fantastic player.

“He has no trouble finding the goal. Obviously, Chelsea has other outstanding strikers, so I understand it isn’t always simple, and if the club keeps winning, the manager will continue to use the same lineup. But I’m confident he’ll get through it.

“Sometimes all you need is a little tweaking.” In Madrid, I had the similar experience; the first year was difficult.”
