Victor Osimhen returned late to Napoli following Nigeria’s unsuccessful effort to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, but the club says he will not be fined.
Osimhen appeared in both legs for the Super Eagles, who were defeated by Ghana 1-1 on aggregate.
On the basis of the away goal rule, the Black Stars qualified.
Osimhen missed Napoli’s 3-1 victory over Atalanta on Sunday due to his late homecoming.
Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli responded to news of the striker’s return by saying that the striker was given permission to take enough time off.
“We don’t understand the uproar,” Giuntoli told DAZN, “since he was given permission to take time off following international duty and he arrived on time.”
“He’s an incredible young man and a consummate professional, so the question should be why these things are being reported in the media.” He was given permission, so there won’t be a fine.”
