Following the Super Eagles’ 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff loss to Ghana, former Nigeria international Henry Nwosu criticised Francis Uzoho.

Uzoho’s gaffe, according to the former midfielder, cost Nigeria a place in this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

According to the 360Media, Uzoho, who came in to replace the injured Maduka Okoye, committed a costly error that cost the Super Eagles their chance to compete in this year’s World Cup.

The goalie let a strike from Ghana captain Thomas Partey, who plays for Arsenal, wriggle under his body and into the net.

Nigeria was also eliminated from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt due to a goalie error by goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.

“I am unhappy that the Super Eagles failed to capitalize on home advantage to defeat Ghana and pick the World Cup ticket,” Nwosu said after the loss to Completesports.

“However, it’s unfortunate that Uzoho’s gaffe was exactly what the Black Stars needed to qualify for Qatar 2022 ahead of Nigeria. His location was crucial in allowing that goal to enter the net.

“Well, I guess we’ll simply have to accept defeat because the job is done.”
