Despite the state’s political upheavals, the Ebonyi House of Assembly stated on Tuesday that the judiciary cannot prevent it from convening its plenary.
Mr Arinze Chukwu (APC-Ishielu South), the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, made the announcement after plenary in Abakaliki.
Chukwu stated that the House was aware of the Federal High Court’s verdict in Abuja on March 8, which dismissed 17 members of the House for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared their seats vacant.
He explained that the Assembly had filed an appeal against the ruling and that it would continue to serve the people of the state until the appeal was resolved.
“We have appealed the verdict, and we are not precluded from having plenary until the appeal is resolved.”
“As a result, no court will prevent us from convening plenary sessions, and we will continue to serve our people,” he stated.
