Prof. Faruk Haruna, the provost of the Federal University of Education in Kontagora, Niger, stated on Sunday that the university spent around N557 million on capital projects in the last two years.
Haruna told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Kontagora that the construction of a botanical garden cost N82 million and the digging of two motorised boreholes cost N17 million.
He said that the procurement and installation of furniture and fittings at the Arts and Social Science building, as well as the General Education program, cost around N32 million.
“We spent N44 million on furniture and equipment in the ICT building and N32 million on a 400-seater lecture hall for the Secondary School Education (Language) Programme,” he said.
Haruna also told NAN that the Chief Lecturers’ office cost N15 million to build, and the institution’s clinic cost N83 million to renovate and expand.
He went on to say that N 60 million was spent on renovating student housing.
He said that N89 million was spent to build a perimeter fence around the female dormitory to improve security.
“We will continue to carry out major initiatives that will improve the institution’s academic excellence,” Haruna stated.
