According to the Muslim Congress (TMC), the recent implementation of a new clothing code for police women was appropriate.

The association also stated that it supports the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nigeria’s recent change to the police uniform.

A new dress code for police women has been authorized, according to 360 MEDIA.

Police officers can now wear headscarves under their berets or peak caps, thanks to the revised dress code.

TMC, on the other hand, has thrown its support behind the current clearance.

Dr Abdulrazaq Ogunmoye, the Waali of the TMC in Ogun State, stated in a statement to 360 MEDIA on Wednesday that the decision is compatible with equality and fairness.

Discriminating against Muslim women and denying them the ability to join the police force because of their religious beliefs is unconstitutional, according to Ogunmoye.

He argued that Muslim women’s wearing of the hijab is consistent with their right to freedom of religion, as stated in section 38(1), and their right to be free from discrimination, as enshrined in section 42 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.

He asked other government agencies to follow the Nigeria Police’s lead and adopt international best practices.

“Despite the fact that the police did not mention Hijab, Muslims, or Islam when it released the guidelines,” he said, “undue criticism from a few Nigerians keeps rationalizing when all Nigerians who work and have anything to do with public institutions must appear “half-naked” in accordance with self-imposed rules on the minimum acceptable ways in which people must dress in public places or institutions.”

“The negative criticism is reasonable because Islamphobia has been implanted in the subconscious brains of some non-Muslims who despise anything associated with Islam.

The approved new dress code for female officers will address the issue of marginalization, which has prevented Hijab-wearing female Muslims from pursuing their dream of joining the police force.

“This is the reason female Muslims must be allowed to use hijab on all occasions – official, unofficial, public or private places as they deem fit and in accordance with their doctrine.

“We commend the leadership of the Nigerian Police for allowing reason to prevail and permit Muslim women who have been denied opportunity to join the police force will now have the opportunity to do so.

“And we also appeal to other government parastatals to emulate the Nigeria Police in line with global best practice.”
