Disturbed by a spate of cult skirmishes that have resulted in fatalities in some parts of Osun State, the state administration has committed to go to whatever length to ensure that those who perpetrate violence, as well as their sponsors, are held accountable.
This comes after recent cult-related violence in the cities of Ilesa and Ede.
The state administration branded the occurrences as illegal and diabolical in a statement issued by Funke Egbemode, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation.
It also reassured locals that the state’s various security agencies are cooperating to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.
“All we can promise Osun’s citizens and residents is that everything is being done and will continue to be done within the law to catch those equipping young people to create unrest in the state.”
“As attempts are made to smoke out the perpetrators of violence and their supporters, we urge calm in the impacted areas.”
“Let us again stress that cultism is a criminal offense, and the security apparatus, as well as the judiciary, will strictly enforce the law to deal with anyone found responsible for the violence in Ilesa and Ede, or anywhere else in the state.”
“Intelligence reports also show that those funding these activities are the reason the cultists are emboldened.
“In Osun, nobody who runs foul of the law will be spared. A criminal is a criminal, whether old or young, poor or highly placed.
“This is a final warning, especially to parents and guardians, to rein in their wayward wards and children before the law catches up with them.
“Governor Adegboyega Oyetola will spare no effort or expense to protect Osun, and cultists will not be allowed to set up their violent shops here”, the statement read.
Recall that the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, recently raised alarm over the spate of killings by hoodlums in the town, calling for urgent government intervention.
