Concerned Abuja Indigenes, an Islamic organisation, has voiced dissatisfaction with the prolonged refusal of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, and his wife to receive their passports after being acquitted and dismissed by the Court.
The group, in a statement signed by Ayedo Danjuma Abdul, emphasized the need for the couple’s travel documents to be released immediately so that they can seek medical treatment for their health problems abroad.
According to the group, the cleric’s and his wife’s gunshot wounds had affected their vision, and parts of their bodies still had shrapnel from the Nigerian Army’s attack on their Islamic center in Zaria on December 12, 2015, which left the house in ruins and ashes, killed three of his children, and left the Sheikh and his wife wounded.
It was claimed that the action will deter his supporters from organizing further public protests in Abuja.
“We encourage the federal government to release Sheikh El-passport, Zakzaky’s as well as his wife’s, to enable them to travel to the hospital of their choosing, avoiding a return of the street rallies by his fans, which turned Abuja into a seemingly battleground,” the statement said.
Many businesses were interrupted, and lives were lost on numerous occasions as a result of police brutality against the free El-Zakzaky protestors, including two journalists, a police officer, many protesters, and even some of our members, according to the statement.
