COSMBYLA, the Coalition of Southern and Middle Belt Youth Leaders Assembly, has asked for the arrest of Idrees Safiyanu Gambo, the Chairman of Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, Bauchi State Chapter, for recent comments made against the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
According to 360 MEDIA, MURIC threatened that any political party that appoints any member of the RCCG will kiss the Aso Rock goodbye in a statement issued by the Bauchi Chairman.
According to MURIC, the RCCG intends to eradicate other religions or convert their followers into political slaves, and any Muslim who votes for a redeemer in the upcoming presidential election in 2023 is now deemed a traitor to Islam.
COSMBYLA, the umbrella organisation for all youth groups in the South East, South South, South West, and Middle Belt regions, reacted angrily, claiming that the remark was intended to cause a religious crisis.
“It is rather regrettable that a claimed leader of a group who should know better about what occurs in a political setting is reasoning in such a manner,” the group’s President General, Goodluck Ibem, said in a statement.
According to the statement, there is no law in the country prohibiting Christians or other groups from banding together to pursue their members’ political interests, and the RCCG has the constitutional right to participate in politics.
“It appears that the Bauchi State Chairman of MURIC has not been true to himself here on why he made such inflammatory and divisive words that have the potential to split the country apart along religious lines,” the statement says in part.
“His comment was motivated by a self-interested desire to advance the political ambitions of a presidential contender who happens to be a Muslim, whom he did not name in the statement.”
“It is regrettable that some will be that selfish and immoral as to make political pronouncements that can lead to the murder of innocent Nigerians in order to pad their wallets.
