The Olorunda local government of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disowned a party chieftain over an alleged verbal attack on Senator Ademola Adeleke.
During a recent television broadcast in Abuja, Akin Adeyi, a PDP chieftain in Osun State, was accused of aggressively abusing the former Senator, who many saw as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
The decision to disown the chieftain was announced in a statement signed by Bola Ajao, the state party’s secretary, Nathaniel Ojetola, the party’s chairman in Olorunda local government, and Lateef Adesina, the party’s Ward 1 chairman.
On Friday, January 28, 2022, the state executive committee of the party passed a resolution disowning Adeyi submitted by the ward executives through the Olorunda local government chapter.
The Osun PDP called the media onslaught “stupid and irresponsible,” saying that Adeyi was attempting to create an unearned image of himself.
While urging members of the public to avoid dealing with Adeyi, the party also stated that Adeyi, a security consultant, is not included on the party’s records in all wards, particularly Ward 1, Unit 2 in the local government, which is the primary need for political party membership.
Akin Adeyi, a retired security employee, responded by revealing that he is being victimized and blackmailed because he chose to speak the truth and expose the party’s problems in the state.
While denying the claims, Adeyi stated that he petitioned the PDP’s national secretariat to have all things and papers pertaining to Senator Ademola Adeleke properly scrutinized and streamlined before being submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In an interview with 360MEDIA, Adeyi stated that there are records to indicate that he is a genuine member of the party, having served on the party’s Security and Intelligence Committee during the 2014 Osun gubernatorial election and as the Director of Intelligence for the party.
The signatories to the statement attributed to his departure, he said, were a collection of jesters who, rather than putting their heads together to produce a deserving gubernatorial candidate for the party, were more interested on casting aspersions on his person.
“The truth is that Akin Adeyi has assisted the people of Osun in learning the truth, and the truth will set them free.” They don’t bother me in the least. They’re only trying to impress their bosses, therefore they’re being petty.
He insisted that he had the courage to speak the truth and protect the party by his actions, and that the recommendations he made in his petitions are being aggressively followed.
Recall that the PDP in Osun has been factionalized as a result of leadership squabbles, with the Sunday Bisi and Olasoji Adagunodo factions leading the party through proxy, which is led by Wale Ojo.
According to 360MEDIA’s sources, other members of the party who are sympathetic to Akin Adeyi’s course are also facing removal from the party after walking out of a party meeting in protest of the party’s actions against the chieftain.
