Nigerians will be evacuated as soon as Ukrainian airports reopen, according to the Federal Government.
This was revealed in a statement issued by Francisca Omayuili, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesman, on Wednesday.
The Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine advised Nigerians to be calm and accountable for their protection and safety in the nation shortly after Russian troops launched a wide-ranging attack on Ukraine on Thursday.
However, the administration issued a new statement assuring Nigerians in Ukraine that steps are being made to keep them secure and to make evacuation easier for those who desire to leave.
“Reports of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have caught the Federal Government of Nigeria off guard.
“The Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine has assured the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the safety of Nigerians in Ukraine, and efforts have been made to keep them safe and assist the evacuation of those who desire to leave.”
“The Federal Government wishes to reassure families who have loved ones in Ukraine that as soon as the country’s airports reopen, it will aid in the evacuation of Nigerians who wish to leave.”
“In the interim, the Nigerian mission has established that Russian military action has been limited to a military installation,” according to the statement.
