Dr. Gambo Aliyu, the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), has warned young Nigerians to know their HIV status and avoid dangerous behavior on Valentine’s Day.

“HIV infection is currently highest among young people aged 15-24 years,” NACA Director General Dr. Gambo Aliyu said in a Valentine’s Day greeting in Abuja on Friday.

He advised young people to love carefully during this time by sharing love and avoiding any activity that puts them at risk of contracting HIV.

“It is critical to lessen this alarming trend among Nigerian teenagers by encouraging loyal relationships for those who are unable to refrain from sex to engage in safer sex,” he says.

“As this is a time for young people to express their love for one another, I urge Nigerians, particularly youths, to express love in the context of profound caring for their loved ones and to avoid behavior that puts them at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.”

Aliyu emphasized the importance of health and productivity to Nigerians’ future.

“As a result, I strongly advise you to refrain from engaging in harmful behaviors as we celebrate Valentine’s Day.” Share Love, not HIV, and Love Wisely. “Take an HIV test right now,” he advised.
