The organized labor movement in Kogi State has granted the state government another seven days to implement the N30,000 minimum wage.
On the 25th of January, 2022, Comrade Onuh Edoka, the Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), issued a 14-day ultimatum to the State administration to adopt the new minimum wage or the workers will be forced to lay off.
The 14-day deadline was set to end at midnight on Friday, February 11th, 2022.
The organized labor announced the extension of the ultimatum to another seven days in a bulletin signed by Comrade Omale Paul, the Acting NLC State Secretary, Comrade Kolawole James, the Acting Trade Union Congress (TUC) State Secretary, and Comrade I.A Abubakar, JPSNC State Secretary on Saturday.
“As a result, it is necessary to grant additional time to allow the negotiating team to complete the assignment in accordance with the Trade Union Act,” they stated.
According to the announcement, the new ultimatum will expire at midnight on Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022.
Organised Labour, on the other hand, praised all workers’ contributions to the struggle and urged them to be faithful in their prayers and unity so that the negotiation’s outcome would be successful and beneficial.
It also asked workers to stay in their offices and follow the law while waiting for additional instructions from the Organized Labour.
