The immediate past spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chuks Ibegbu, has warned of the consequences of denying the Igbo nation of Nigeria a presidential seat in the country’s approaching 2023 general elections.
Ibegbu issued the warning during a Friday meeting in Umuahia with leaders of Nigerian socio-cultural and political youth groups.
The Ohanaeze chieftain stated that if Igbos are denied the opportunity, they will feel as if they are not a part of Nigeria, and he urged citizens and political players to rally around the Igbo nation in the interests of justice, equity, and fairness.
“The youths, in particular, may be more restless this time, and no amount of force will be able to quell their rage,” he warned. “I encourage political parties to zone their presidential tickets to the southeast of the Igbo extraction.”
In response to reports that Senate Minority Leader Enyinnaya Abaribe and other prominent Igbo leaders have endorsed ex-Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the presidency in 2023, Mazi Ibegbu stated that Abaribe did not endorse the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain.
“Atiku visited the Senate caucus and there was no time they approved him,” the Igbo chieftain said.
Ibegbu also urged Nigerian voters to be ready to use their votes to make a positive difference in their lives.
He also urged Nigerians to be aware of their voting power and to use it to elect good leaders and oust corrupt ones.
“This is the first revolutionary initiative to educate Nigerian electorates,” he claimed.
