HURIWA, Nigeria’s Human Rights Writers Association, has informed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo that his 2019 plan to prevent alleged killings in Christian-dominated Southern Kaduna has failed.
According to the report, the failure was due to the Federal Government’s lack of willingness to take the necessary steps to end the ongoing situation in the region.
HURIWA questioned why the government gave the Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, presidential treatment although the organisation, according to it, should have been branded a terrorist group long ago.
According to the rights group, the government provides high-profile security cover and protection to the leaders of MACBAN.
Remember that soon before President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were re-elected in 2019, the Vice President convened a peace meeting with the warring parties to end the persistent violent disputes between herdsmen and farmers in Kaduna State.
HURIWA said in a statement signed by its national coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, on Sunday that Osinbajo and his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, were insincere and cosmetic in their approaches to finding systematically legal based solutions to what it called armed Fulani terrorists’ one-sided terrorism against Christian farmers.
Almost all local government districts in Southern Kaduna, according to HURIWA, are still being assaulted, with indigenous being killed, injured, and their homes being destroyed or taken over by the aggressors, who are Fulani.
Buhari’s lone visit to Southern Kaduna, according to HURIWA, was to commission a tiny road network connecting to the Emir of Jamaa’s palace in Kafanchan.
The President gave the impression, according to the rights group, that his government is unconcerned about what is happening to the people of Southern Kaduna.
As far as President Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Ruffai were concerned, HURIWA stated it was difficult for the Vice President’s office to make any progress in the area of inter-ethnic and inter-religious peace and harmony in Southern Kaduna.
