Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has stated that he would rather leave politics than be involved in bloodletting violence.

The governor made the claim during a press conference with media on the sidelines of the Nigerian Catholic Bishops Conference’s inaugural plenary in Abuja on Sunday.

Governor Uzodinma has separated himself from politicians that use violence to attain their personal goals, especially during elections.

“I don’t belong to the class of politicians who advocate violence,” he remarked. I am not a member of the political class that will bleed blood (to win elections).

“I’d rather not be a politician than be a weapon of mass destruction.” If you recall the history of Nigerian elections, they have always been met with trepidation from the start.”

Imo State has recently faced a number of security issues as a result of a confrontation between outlawed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and law enforcement forces.

Due to the claimed actions of the IPOB’s security wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, many security personnel have been killed and police stations have been burned in the state.
