Rimamsikwe Hassan Karma, the Chairman of Taraba State’s Ussa Local Government Area, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the council.

According to him, the move was necessary to prevent the development of the ongoing confrontation between two communities, who threw caution to the wind on Friday.

The Rufu and Lissam communities are believed to have engaged in a conflict on Friday that resulted in severe property devastation.

The chairman confessed to 360 MEDIA over the phone that the people took the law into their own hands by assaulting themselves and trashing goods.

The problem began, according to Karma, when masquerades from one of the villages allegedly went insane and flogged innocent individuals.

According to the360 MEDIA, the masquerades even assaulted a pastor, an incident that enraged the surrounding community, which responded with a retaliatory attack.

Though no casualties were reported at the time of reporting this article, the chairman verified that three people were seriously hurt and are currently receiving care in the hospital.

He claimed that heavily armed mobile police officers and soldiers had been dispatched to the area to help settle things down.

Karma went on to say that the curfew, which he feels will restore the council’s much-desired normalcy, will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 6 a.m.

Meanwhile, Abdullahi Usman, the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), was unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report, but a senior police officer who requested anonymity confirmed that additional mobile police officers had been deployed to the council to assist conventional police officers.
