End users of petrol, particularly motorists in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, have continued to face fuel scarcity, with prices reaching as high as N250 per litre.
According to sources, the situation is considerably worse in big towns such as Potiskum, Gashu’a, Nguru, and Geidam, where the goods can cost up to N300 per litre.
The scarcity’s impacts have resulted in long lines forming in the few places where the commodity is available.
Some motorists who talked to reporters stated they waited for more than four to five hours only to acquire fuel at the NNPC Mega Station’s official pump pricing.
According to 360 MEDIA, the situation at the station saw a combination of security personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the police, and a few members of the Yobe State Petroleum Task Force controlling the crowd and ensuring smooth product sales.
According to a Task Force spokesman, roughly three Golf drivers were arrested for what he described as “recycle buying.”
“We detained three Golf drivers who are black makers here at the station,” a member of the task force said. They have built large tanks under their vehicles and come to queue, buy, and then go out to empty the tanks and return.”
The sales of the product at the mega station has forced drivers to abandon other marketers selling at exorbitant rates.
