Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández has stated that Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain will always be welcome at Camp Nou.
Xavi, who was a teammate of Messi at Barcelona, said the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is always welcome as long as he is the Catalan club’s coach.
After the Blaugrana failed to renew his contract owing to LaLiga regulations, Messi left for PSG last summer.
Since joining the French Ligue 1 giants, the Argentine captain has failed to impress, and was recently booed by PSG supporters following their Champions League elimination at the hands of Real Madrid.
“He [Messi] is the finest in history and he will always be welcome at Barcelona,” Xavi said of Messi during his pre-match news conference on Saturday ahead of Barcelona’s El Clasico with Real Madrid on Sunday.
“It doesn’t matter if he wants to come here every day as long as I’m the coach.” I believe we owe him a significant amount of money.
“We can’t say anything because he has a contract with PSG.” For example, whether he wants to come here every day to see the workouts and speak with the coach. What he’s provided us is invaluable.”
