Wayne Rooney, the head coach of Derby County, has revealed why he turned down the opportunity to become Everton’s new manager.
Everton is now looking for a new manager after dismissing Rafael Benitez just a few days ago.
Rooney had been touted as a possible replacement for Benitez.
The former Manchester United striker said that he has turned down an opportunity to interview for the position ahead of Derby County’s match against Birmingham on Sunday because he now has a job at Derby that is vital to him.
“Everton approached my agency and asked me to apply for the job,” Rooney revealed at his pre-match news conference ahead of the Birmingham encounter. I declined the offer.
“I am confident in my ability to manage in the Premier League and am fully prepared to do so.” “However, I have a job at Derby that is very essential to me.”
