Andriy Shevchenko, a former Chelsea player, has confessed that his relationship with the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, would never be the same again due to the current Russian-Ukraine conflict.
Shevchenko was one of Abramovich’s first signings for Chelsea in 2006, three years after the Russian magnate gained control of the West London club.
Shevchenko, a Ukrainian legend, is now totally focused on carrying out his patriotic obligations as he seeks peace and assists his compatriots fleeing war-torn Ukraine in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion.
The UK government has imposed sanctions on Abramovich as a result of his alleged ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and he is desperately seeking to sell Chelsea.
Shevcnehko told the Daily Mail, “I said from the outset that I didn’t believe this [Russia versus Ukraine war] could happen.”
“I don’t think it will ever be the same for us [Shevcnehko and Abramovich] because we had such a long connection.”
“However, I am aware that there are many Russians who want the war to end.”
