Ralf Rangick’s team selection and set-up, according to Manchester United star Gary Neville, was a “tactical show off” as his club lost 4-1 against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.

When the German coach gave up on the failing system, Nevile believed things got even worse.

Manchester United were comfortably defeated by their local rivals at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with Kevin de Bruyne (2) and Riyad Mahrez (2) scoring in each half.

De Bruyne’s initial goal had been cancelled out by Jadon Sancho’s equalizer.

After the break, however, things spun out of control for the Red Devils, with Riyad Mahrez scoring twice as Pep Guardiola’s side completely controlled the game.

Rangnick started the game with Anthony Elanga, Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes in the front four, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani unavailable.

Rangnick started Pogba and Fernandes upfront for the majority of the game, which was an unusual line-up for the former RB Leipzig manager, and Neville thought it was merely Rangnick “showing off.”

Things grew worse for United in the second half, when the former Sports Director reverted to a more familiar configuration after introducing Rashford and Jesse Lingard.

“It felt like a tactical show off to me in terms of trying to show off a system,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“As I sit here now, that’s how I see it.”

“But when he went to a more traditional system, putting Rashford on, Lingard to the right and Sancho to the left, that was worse!”
