Sadio Mane, the Senegal forward who was taken out in his team’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, round of 16 triumph over Cape Verde on Tuesday, has provided an update on his head injury.

During Senegal’s AFCON 2-0 triumph over the Blue Sharks, Mane collided with Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha while competing for a high ball.

After undergoing treatment himself, Vozinha was later sent off for the incident shortly before the hour mark.

Despite the negative effects of their headbutt, Mane was contentiously allowed to play, and six minutes later, the 29-year-old scored Senegal’s opening goal of the match.

Following a lengthy VAR examination to confirm his score, Mane went down again, this time grabbing his head.

After being aided by his teammates and led off the pitch by the Senegalese medical staff, the Liverpool star was substituted in the 70th minute.

Mane updated his fitness by posting a photo of himself and Vozinha on Instagram with the captions: “Senegal vs Cape Verde in the pitch, in the hospital.”

“Thank you all for your messages; everything is alright.”

“Sadio had a great shock with the goalie and I have not heard from him yet,” Senegal coach Cisse said at his post-match press conference. “He was dizzy and he is currently in the hospital.”
