Manchester City has strongly denounced the insults faced by Phil Foden and his family backstage at Saturday’s boxing event between Amir Khan and Kell Brook.
On social media, video footage of a confrontation at the AO Arena in Manchester between unnamed members of the public and a group containing the England midfielder has gone viral.
“The club is aware of a video that has circulated on social media depicting Phil Foden and his family being harassed and humiliated,” Manchester City stated in a statement on Sunday.
“The extent of the abuse and subsequent assault on one of Phil’s family members astounded and disgusted us.
“We will continue to provide Phil and his family with all of the aid and support they require.”
Foden attended the fight after playing the entire 90 minutes in Manchester City’s 3-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Etihad Stadium earlier in the day.
Brook, meanwhile, had won the fight by a sixth-round stoppage.
